Eco Tours

Many people visit Raglan for the sun, surf, and café culture but Raglan is also one of New Zealand’s most innovative, sustainably minded towns. Join us on a Raglan eco tour to experience sustainability in a new light at the Eel Aquaculture Farm. Here groups will tour this working eel, whitebait, mullet, dairy beef and fibre farm to see how production can be achieved with minimal dependence on oil. Our engaging and accomplished guides can answer a variety of related questions about sustainability, horticulture, environmental science or a variety of other topics. If groups indicate interest areas ahead of time we can tailor the tour to fit in most related subjects.

Combine this with a kayak trip to meet our charter boat, the Wahine Moe, for the “Become A Raglan EEL tour”. Depending on tides your journey will begin with an eel farm tour, and will continue by kayak down the Waitetuna River where you will navigate “the narrows” with a knowledgeable guide. The Wahine Moe will meet you for a cruise in Raglan Harbour for you to relax and enjoy the scenery.

Depending on the season group eco tours can also be arranged at Kaiwhenua Organics, a fully functional organic farm working by the guidance of traditional wisdom.

Also depending on availability are service projects through the Whaingaroa Environment Centre for groups looking to give back to the community.
